Is the new DJI Phantom 2?

The word out on the street is that DJI Innovations will be releasing a 2nd generation DJI Phantom Quadcopter called the DJI Phantom 2 along with the DJI Phantom Vision. On September 9th, DJI Innovation has announced a special promotion for the DJI Phantom Quadcopter, saving customers over USD200. You can now buy the DJI Phantom Quadcopter from Amazon for $479.

Customers who have purchased the DJI Phantom Quadcopter before the 9th of September will be eligible for a credit of USD150. The credit is only valid to purchase the DJI Phantom II or DJI Phantom Vision. DJI Innovation will be launching the new phantoms in November, 2013 just before Christmas. The credit will expire on Dec 31st, 2013.

In order to get the credits, customers must contact authorised DJI Phantom Quadcopter dealers and fill in a special form. The credits can only be redeemed at authorised dealers.

No specifications has been confirmed or released by DJI Innovations. A discussion thread has been created at DJIGuys to discuss the new DJI Phantom II. Although unconfirmed, a forum member at DJIGuys has posted this link at Amazon.

    With the price of the “mark 1″ Phantoms sub-$500, the biggest concern really is its penetration into the overall consumer market. Without sounding too tired and old, these truly are not toys. There are videos abound of new owners ignorantly flying their Phantoms into corwded urban areas … and losing them. Please take care
    when flying these drones (that’s what they are) and in particular, research and understand the risks of using the lipo batteries needed to power them. Stay on top of this and all things Phantom at the DJI Phantom Forum
