“UPDATE – September 2013 – The current buzz on air is that DJI Innovations will be releasing the 2nd Gen Phantom called DJI Phantom II along with the DJI Phantom Vision. For more information, click here. DJI Innovations has reduced the DJI Phantom Quadcopter prices by $200. You can now buy the DJI Phantom Quadcopter from Amazon for $479.”
This is an exclusive interview with DJI Innovations CEO Colin Guinn by Bryan Conover at LightSoundImagination. During this interview, Colin talks about the latest features of the upcoming DJI Phantom Vision which will be a whole different system (Colin also mentions about the possibility for 1st Gen DJI Phantom owners getting upgrade kits depending on demand) such as having an on/off switch, bigger battery compartment (5200 mAh), longer propellers, bigger motor, better flight time (up to 15 minutes of flight time), awesome integration with the iPhone and Android through an App, built in FPV system and many more. The flight controls TX and RX will be 5.8 Ghz and camera controls will be 2.4 Ghz.
Colin excitedly (Colin -“Dude, wait till you see the app”) demonstrates the new iOS app available for the DJI Phantom Vision that features telemetry, battery indicator, photo taking with time interval control, video recording at 1080p, photo management system and RAW photo format. A mount is available for the controller to hold your smartphone. You no longer need to purchase and install a separate FPV system like the FatShark Dominator anymore with the DJI Phantom Vision. An Android version is also coming for the DJI Phantom Vision to satisfy the Android flyers.
Another very interesting and cool new DJI Phantom Vision feature is that you will be able to tilt, pan the built in camera by moving your iPhone during flight (watch Colin demonstrate that feature on the video above). This will surely be one of the most in flight tested feature by DJI Phantom quadcopter enthusiast as soon as its released. There are discussions among Phantom owners regarding the Features and Benefits of the DJI Phantom quadcopter vs the new DJI Phantom Vision going on at PhantomPilots.com
With the new telemetry system onboard the DJI Phantom Vision, the iOS and Android App will display flight time information such as speed, altitude, attitude, compass direction and distance. According to Colin, the optimal working range for the DJI Phantom Vision and App to work is about 300 meters. You are given a choice between choosing FPV quality vs FPV range.
At the moment no exact pricing been announced however according to Colin, the new DJI Phantom Vision will cost more than the original DJI Phantom quadcopter but will be cheaper than the DJI Phantom quadcopter + Zenmuse Gimbal. According to LightSoundImagination the estimated delivery is November 2013.
Based on the video above, the new DJI Phantom Vision has a built in vibration isolator gimbal with rubber shock absorber.

One of the most innovative feature of the DJI Phantom 2 Vision is the integration of the smartphone into the quadcopter. As you can see, the App provides you with altitude, distance, speed, battery life, satellite coverage, wifi strength, photo and video capture. For a RTF system, these features definitely give it a plus. In terms of the video quality, it’s really not too bad. You can’t really compare the gimbal stabilization with Zenmuse H3-2D gimbal. It will be interesting if this new quadcopter can be modified by enthusiast. What do you think? Please leave your comment below!
The DJI Phantom 2 Vision App features a built in GPS locator called Find my Phantom 2 Vision similar to the Find my iPhone feature. Now this is excellent news as there have been reports of DJI Phantom flyaways. This could provide a peace of mind to anyone who is considering a DJI Phantom 2 Vision. Hopefully nobody will ever need to use the GPS locator during their flying sessions.
