Robots in Flight by UAV Challenge
Five teams from around the world compete in a competition called UAV Challenge in Australia to design and build a UAV system that can search a designated area, locate a lost entity and drop a bottle of water and return to the home base.
This is not about quadcopters however its really interesting how UAV technology can be developed for civilian use such as:
- Farming – Crop Surveillance and Dusting
- Search & Rescue – Land and Sea
- Animal Surveillance – Land and Sea
It does make sense where in a disaster situation instead of sending out helicopters and search and rescue to perform surveillance, uav’s can deployed initially to look for survivors and damage assessment. This will then allow the important and often limited resources to focus on performing the actual rescuing.
